But since any magic can pass through the portal there are more uses for Spellportals than just warfare. Some have existed for years and have become infused with the magic of the Harrowmark forests. Local hedge-wizards use them to communicate and some have made a good living from charging villagers to send messages to their neighbours beyond the woods, especially at times when a skyship carrying letters is late.

I have nearly finished making my death-forest-magic-mirrors, inspired by theempyrean_'s versions on Instagram.

I have finally got round to painting a tree-stump, to fill in for a missing tree for one of my Citadel Woods. We have been covering the gap with foresty objective markers, but it has been irking Wailslake. Hopefully this will make him feel better!

And last night I got carried away with the renewed Harrowmark excitement and started making another foresty thing from my large to-do pile...
The wreck of the sky-ship Gryph-Hound.
I'm going to add a tree to the gap at the front and a lot of arboreal textures and colours to the timbers of the rotting hulk.
Looks promising! I like the story too, how it isn't just used for warfare :) I am also very eagerly looking forward to that shipwreck!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Borgnine! =D
DeleteThe Spellpotal *could* be painted this week, but the shipwreck still has a way to go before I can even undercoat it! ;-)
Not sure if it's too late or too complex for this, but I was kind of thinking it could be cool to put a bush or tree in front of one of them, with one or more branches growing into the mirror, and then the branches growing out of the other one, like that pair of Spellportals have been there so long that even the forest has started traveling through it.
ReplyDeleteThey do look cool as-is, tho.
I checked because I got some third-party area terrain bases and I wanted to see if they were compatible with the Citadel Woods, and it turns out that they fit a 50mm round base just about perfectly. So I've been making various bits of filler, bushes, piles of rocks, stuff from the AoS Objective Markers kit, whatever, on 50mm bases so I can use them as filler if I don't want that whole lot to be full on forest.
The Gloomtide Shipwreck is a cool piece. I hope I can find a reason to pick one up at some point. I like the Gryph-Puppy figurehead better than the usual Sigmar one.
Hmmmm. Nice idea - I'll have a play and see if I can pull it off.
DeleteThe Gloomtide is such a nice kit. Really easy to assemble and very good quality. I may get another one... or two!
