The Flaywilds - Animosity VIII (part 2)

Smoke clouds drift over the scorched forests of the Flaywilds.

Three more pieces of terrain completed for the Chaos Wastes themed Warcry board.

These three pieces were made from old Citadel Woods trees that I've featured in games on my table many times over the years, mostly in Harrowmark campaigns.

I added them to foamcore bases with one or two Gnawhole rocks each, then daubed the bases with a home-made texture paste: A tester pot of matt red emulsion paint, PVA wood glue, sand, and cork crumbs.

I spray-can undercoated the rocks and bases, but (mostly) avoided spraying the trees, since they were already painted brown. I dry-brushed them with Greyseer and gave them one coat of thinned Black Templar Contrast paint.

The stone is a basecoat of Dryad Bark, heavy dry-brush of Mechanicus Standard Grey, light dry-brush of Greyseer, focused on the edges especially.

The sand is basecoated Mournfang Brown, a few uneven coats of thinned Trollslayer Orange - stippled and sponged for texture.

Finally tie the rock into the sand with a 10:1 mix of water : Trollslayer. Wash this around the places stone meets sand. When the water dries it looks like dust blown onto the rocks.

The Flaywilds - Animosity VIII (part 1)

I'm trying to channel the vibe of a bit of the art, by John Blanche, from the 1980s GW card game Chaos Marauders (above).

I (re)painted a 15"×9" chonk of terrain. I only changed the dirt from Steel Legion Drab to orange, to match the orange side of the Thondia boards.

• Mournfang Brown base coat
• Sponged and stipled with 2 to 3 coats of Trollslayer Orange
• Recesses washed with 10:1 mix of water:Trollslayer Orange with more water added at the outside edge of each wash (for a dusty effect)

(Annoyingly, the colour looks closer to the board in real life than it does in these photos.)

This photo shows just how big this hill is; it occupies just a little under a quarter of a 30"x22" Warcry board!

The Cleavermaw

I started building the Cleavermaw in March 2020! Although I lost momentum on the project I kept coming back to work on it for short periods and I eventually completed the build in July 2022

For some reason the hyperfocus never really seemed to kick-in and I struggled to get it over the finish line. But I found some juice for it and I'm calling it done now.

I was planning to use it as a Maw-Krusha (and I still might!) as it's on the same sized base - the massive 160mm round.

But with the recent news about Path to Glory: Blighted Wilds including a system to create warscrolls for custom faction terrain, I might try them at some point.

Necropolis Warcry Board, part 4

I know I've previously said it was finished, but maybe it wasn't finished.

I made a 4th block of terrain for my Necropolis board.

As with the other parts, there's a block of pink insulation foam inside. For this one I used the arches as a template to draw their shapes on the foam with a sharpie, then carved out alcoves with a Stanley knife. I lined the flat parts inside with plasticard stone slabs, and filled the gaps with PVA and sand. The arched roof of each alcove was just coated with PVA and sand.

When the PVA had cured I added piles of bones from the Bone-tithe Nexus.

It's hard to see, but I did the same with the "window" opening on the short side. There's a single skeleton (from the OG Warcry ruins bell-tower) lying inside.

And this time, I'm not going to declare it finished: I might add some more small scatter pieces, like the tree and fountain.
