Grandfather Kurgan's Genestealer Cult, part 11

Cultists spent their whole lives preparing for the day of the final conquest. Generation after generation lived in secrecy, cycle after cycle bearing nauseating fruit. The infected spread the curse to others, and to their children, who in turn infected more. Like a living virus, they expanded exponentially, their numbers swelling until the rulers of the society's underworld were strong enough to seize the entire host planet. Though the later generations of each cycle had the appearance of common men and women, inside they were xenos through and through. Their allegiance was owed only to the organisms that brought the Genestealer Curse to their world, and the hybrids of their hidden kindred. Their Patriarch, starborne and inhuman, squatted at the centre of a web of influence that expanded until it covered the entire world. Every soul in the cult was mindlessly obedient to that repulsive creature, and would give their lives to save it.

More Genestealer Cults news from GW means more Genestealer Cults work from me! (I know, I am fickle. But we are playing some casual Kill Team games between campaigns so my Cults are getting used in games!)

Brother Sava
Shotgun

Made from a (slightly butchered) Tempestus Scion with Neophyte arms and head.  I had started making something else with the Scion months ago but I abandoned that whole project and repurposed the minis as GSC.

Brother Jora
Shotgun

Another Tempestus Scion with Neophyte arms and head.

Brother Nikal
Autogun

Make from an Orlock ganger with a Neophyte head. The neck needed trimming to fit on the orlock body.

Brother Miron
Autogun

A GSC Neophyte with a Skitarii arms. I plan on using the Galvanic Rifle as some kind of sniper autogun.

Brother Stas
Autogun

Made from a Skitarii with Neophyte arms and head.

Next up for my GSC (if I don't include working on stuff that hasn't been released yet!): non-combatant cult members. I'd say "civilians" but I think most (non-PDF anyway) Cultists count as civilian.

Grandfather Kurgan's Genestealer Cult, part 10

Basking in the sheer alien glory of the patron that infected them, Acolyte Hybrids Darsai and Sketan crooned and hissed in the gloom of the underhive. When the time came to throw off the torn robes they used to disguise their foulness, the Acolytes crawled out of the mines into the lamplight of Mancunius Dome, their grotesque faces twisted in subhuman glee. They displayed a bizarre blend of the species from which they hail – the speed of a Purestrain Genestealer twinned with human cunning is a potent combination. The hybrids fired off volleys of pistol fire, before descending on the enemy in a riot of claws, close combat weapons and screamed praise to their masters.

With all the Genestealer Cults news over the weekend I was inspired to finish off these three models - they have been sat on my desk for three months as I lost interest in working on them when the grey zenithal-spray basecoat went weird and gritty on them. I did my best to clean it off the Goliath Neophyte (with an old toothbrush), but it took a long time and by the time I got to the Acolytes the paint had cured pretty hard and it was too late.

But coming back to them I found I wasn't nearly as bothered by it so I think I have made my peace with it.

I have a Kill Team game arranged for Friday this week - I think it's time the Order of the Guardian rose up!

Grandfather Kurgan's Genestealer Cult, part 9

"The legends tell of the spacers that brought the Grandfather to Necromunda - they were the crew of a bulk hauler that chanced upon a Space Hulk at the edge of a far off star system. They are long-dead now but some of their descendants are still part of our family. They were heroes, saints even. They brought our Guardian to us, so he could protect us and guide us and make our lives infinitely better.

They smuggled the Grandfather onto our world in a cargo container, in the centre of a consignment of cryo-frozen foodstuffs. In the spaceport the container was put onto a monorail to be moved from Hive Secundus to Hive Primus. It was 'stolen', before it reached the terminus in Primus, and moved down-hive. There it was stored for nearly 20 years while the family grew - the spacer's children took over as custodians and the frozen container was tended carefully; re-painted and re-tagged, kept powered-up and kept hidden.

When the family was big enough and strong enough the container was moved again. Down again, down into the underhive where it was safe from prying eyes. In a temple set up by the faithful Brood Brothers, Acolytes and Neophytes of the (now well established) Order of the Guardian the power was turned off, the doors unsealed - the Ceremony of Awakening was performed. The Guardian was welcomed into his loving family's arms and our power grew."

Four more Neophytes join the Order of the Guardian. Made with the plentiful leftovers from an actual Neophyte kit, some human Blood Bowl players and some Cadians. A bit of clipping and a little greenstuff was needed to fix the joints between the GSC torsos and legs from other kits.

Brother Alvit, Medic Specialist Neophyte with with shotgun
(I have done more work on this model since taking the photos - I will replace them with new pics soon)

Brother Ferrar, Neophyte with autogun

Brother Tarax, Neophyte with autopistol and chainsword

Brother Medak, Neophyte with mining laser

The Order of the Guardian so far:

There are a couple of familiars, 2 more Acolytes and a few extra infected gangers on the way.

Grandfather Kurgan's Genestealer Cult, part 8

Brother Taron and Brother Kyros croon and hiss in the gloomy corners of Mancunius Dome. They have toiled in the slag mines around the Sulphured Quays for years. When the time comes they will throw off the torn robes they use to disguise their foulness, these Acolyte Hybrids will crawl into the light, their grotesque faces twisted in subhuman glee.

Grandfather Kurgan's Genestealer Cult, part 7

Crawling out from the cold, polluted corners of the Mancunius Dome underworld come the Order of the Guardian.

I have added another two models to the growing cult: Thokon and Gevik. They are both Genestealer-infected gangers that I will use as Autogun-armed Neophytes in Kill Team. For now I am focusing on adding models that have a chance of being included in a table-top force. My interest in them is less than the "behind the scenes" members of the cult but I'm worried about not being able to use them in a game without the more "fighty" cult members to carry to action part of the story.

Brother Thokon - House Goliath owns and operates many of the great foundries of Necromunda and its workers are the masters of the furnace - the cult has infiltrated in small numbers to gain access to materials and equipment.

Brother Gevik - House Orlock is known throughout Necromunda as the ‘House of Iron’, an industrial superpower fuelled by countless ore mines and a stranglehold monopoly of the convoys serving the ferrous slag-heaps that lie out in the Ash Wastes. The cult has started to reach beyond the mines and slowly creeps into the convoy crews.

I have 2 Acolyte Hybrids on my painting desk that are undercoated and zenithal base-coated, so they will be the next additions. I have also found a few left over Neophyte torsos (I already used their legs on other projects!) that I will try to splice with legs from other kits. And I have plans to make one or two Genestealer-infected Escher gangers for this group.

Grandfather Kurgan's Genestealer Cult, part 6

Crawling out from the cold, polluted corners of the Mancunius Dome underworld come the Order of the Guardian. Secretive, stealthy, and utterly dedicated, they have been growing unseen in the hidden spaces of Humanity’s realm. Some of the cultists are truly monstrous, skulking along dank tunnels with heavy robes covering their hybrid anatomies. Others are merely pallid and bald, able to pass for loyal citizens whilst their wyrm-form tattoos remain hidden. These latter-generation brethren mingle amongst the herd like wolves in sheep’s clothing, working so hard amongst the crumbling machineries of Mankind’s industry that none spare them a second glance – but under their work fatigues and the rough apparel of miners and forge-workers, they all bear the mark of the alien.

When their brotherhood becomes strong enough, and all is in place for their great uprising, the Genestealer Cult will make its play. The militant throng will boil by the thousand from sewers, tunnels and basements, seeping from the spires high above like insects pouring from a hidden nest.

Before that darkly glorious day of war can happen, the cult’s warriors have steps to take to undermine the enemy. Saboteurs will shattered the supply lines of those who would oppose them, hidden agents will assassinate key commanders, and routes of escape will be cut off by demolition crews and blast teams. Every eventuality the cult’s masters can foresee will be accounted for, every advantage stacked in their favour. The enemy will find their ammunition crates empty, their fuel reserves dry, their transport craft hijacked and their supporting fleet holed and listing in orbit. When the cult attacks, the enemy will already be surrounded, stranded and half-beaten, ripe for a slaughter long planned.

I have added another two models to the nascent cult. A Primus and a Magus that I have had in a box on my desk for over a year.

Magus Tovet is the voice of The Order of the Guardian. He plays a vital role in infiltrating underhive society. Due to his intelligence, charisma, appearance, and understanding of the Mancunius Dome society, he is well suited to his role as mouthpiece of the cult. As a Genestealer Hybrid of the 4th generation, he appears nearly human, although bald and heavy boned. He is highly intelligent and possesses formidable psychic ability. His "normal" appearance allows him to operate as the public spokesman for the clan or cult, which is disguised as a legitimate religious movement - a role which the purestrain Genestealer Patriarch cannot take. He is also a powerful and manipulative psyker.

~ Ձ ~

Primus Demian will be a commander when the time comes for war, but whilst the cult still remains in hiding, it is his duty to spread the Genestealer Cult. His innate gift for leadership and coordination will allow him to militarize the cult in short order, masterminding the takeover of vehicles and even spacecraft.

A strong champion and lauded hero amongst the brood, he appeared in an early generation of the third cycle. The Primus is a humanoid warrior of prodigious strength and tactical guile. Where a Magus boasts a mental acuity and telepathic powers the equal of a Space Marine Librarian, the Primus has a supernatural dexterity and surety of focus that can see him bring down adversaries twice his size.

Until the day of the uprising though he has the role of advisor to the Patriarch, and logistical organiser for the cult's expansion to other regions of the underhive.

These new models were so quick and easy to paint I have already assembled and undercoated 4 more models for the Order of the Guardian. The cult grows...
