Blackrocks - part 8: The Freebooter's Tower

Blackrocks is a ruined and overgrown town in the dark forests of the Harrowmark, some seven leagues from Wortbad, that has been partially rebuilt using materials from skyship-wrecks. It’s main surviving features are the Freebooter’s Tower, The Hurricane Bell and the Charybdis Occulum. All are surrounded by dense forest.

The Freebooter's Tower earned its name because it has been used by generations of sky-ship pirates as a base of operations, a storeroom and a refuge. Some crews have stayed for a day or so, some much longer. It is surrounded by the detritus of pirate occupation: the hill is littered with empty barrels and bottles.

This is another piece of scenery that was intended for a tropical island style scenery set that is no longer happening. It was finished in 2013 but it has never been used in a game! I have repainted the tower as grey-green stone and added dead grass flock and leaf litter, to match my other Harrowmark scenery for Blackrocks and Wortbad. I expect it to feature in Age of Sigmar Skirmish games in the very near future!

Blackrocks - part 7: The Charybdis Occulum

Blackrocks is a ruined and overgrown town in the dark forests of the Harrowmark that has been partially rebuilt using materials from skyship-wrecks.

In an area of Blackrocks that was once known as Stonewarden, in a clearing in the tangled forest, lies the ancient Charybdis Occulum. It is said that a mage that stands within the verdigrised sphere of the Occulum can use it's power to scry across a hundred leagues of the malignant forest and the dangerous skies above it: the mage will be able to see everything in this radius. It is not without risk but with practice and concentration they will be able to locate individual objects of value or people of interest.

The Charybdis Occulum is finished:

I've also added dead grass and fallen leaves to the Hurricane Bell:

These two pieces (and one more I'm still working on) will form the core of Blackrocks, which will be surrounded by the forests I finished last month.

Blackrocks - part 6: The Charybdis Occulum (WIP)

Blackrocks is a ruined town in the dark forests of the Harrowmark that has been partially rebuilt using materials from shipwrecks.

This project started as a new "scenery set" for my Pirate Orruks: I had a sort of cliched "tropical desert island" look in mind when I set out. It was going to be a ruined port town in the Realm of Beasts.

Over the months (and months and months) that have gone by since I started I have changed direction with it, so now it is part of my existing Realm of Death scenery set - a ruin in the dark forests of The Harrowmark, in Shyish. My Pirate Orruks are going to be sailing flying ships over a malignant forest (a setting that owes everything to John Blanche's recent "Voodoo Forest" illustration project).

This means a much darker and more sinister paint-job was required than I had envisaged originally - lots more washes of Athonian Camoshade and Agrax Earthshade!

It's still WIP as I still have to add the dead grass flock and leaf litter that my other "Wortbad" scenery all has but the painting is complete now.

Blackrocks - part 5: The Charybdis Occulum (WIP)

Base colours are pretty much all down now. Onto lots of washes and dry-brushing next.

The colour scheme is inspired by the Ashton Memorial, in Lancaster (in the UK!)

A Clash of Empires. The Season of War - Game 3

Objective: Honour and Glory: Both sides earn Laurels of Victory for killing unit leaders (1), Heroes (2) and the enemy General (3), and for controlling the central scenery (1 per round).

Kapitán Alunzo da Leeva - Orruk Warboss
El Doctoro - Orruk Great Shaman
Dragante - Orruk Boss + 9 Boyz, Orruk Banner
Tambor - Orruk Drummer + 9 Boyz
Da Fireworkz (looted cannon) - Rock Lobber
Grapeshot and Beermoth - 2 Rumguzzler Gargants

~~~
The Rotmoons fell back from Ghyran after their run of defeats and mustered near a Realmgate in Wortbad, one of the small haunted villages that litter the Harrowmark in Shyish: The Realm of Death. There they met up with the Rumguzzler Gargants Grapeshot and Beermoth and plotted their return to Ghyran.
Unfortunately for them The Golden Rifles had been dispatched to hunt them down!
Beermoth and Grapeshot headed into the woods.
The Rotmoons were split into 2 units, one went with Da Leeva between Deathwatch Hall and the Rose & Sycthe Inn.
The rest with Degante went between the Chapel of Shyish and the other side of Deathwatch Hall.
Da Fireworks dragged their gun up on the right flank.
The Golden Rifles' Steam Tank wheezed and clanked into position opposite the looted gun while the rest of the Free Guild force formed up the other side of their Luminark.
The Gargants crashed through the trees.
The Handgunners marched through the pumpkin field until the  Free Guild General ordered them to hold the line, so they planted their standard and took aim at the Gargants.
The Orruk Privateers closed on the statue in the centre of town.
The Demigryph Knights smashed into Grapeshot.
The Rotmoons clashed with Free Guild Outriders.
Grapeshot fell and Beermoth piled in to the knights.
Even though the Rotmoons took heavy casualties they whittled down the Outriders rapidly.
Da Leeva was left behind by the charging Privateers and stood on his own in the open. It suddenly got very bright...
... as the Luminark turned it's powerful beam on him.
The Steam Tank chugged toward the central statue.
But the Luminark dealt with the Rotmoons Boyz before it got there!
Beermoth and El Doctoro both ran away from the town, hoping not to be noticed...
BlessedKnight won, with 5 Laurels of Victory to my 2.
