"Nah, nah, nah. You don't have to worry about dat. Dese squigs is da best dat you'll find anywhere, guaranteed." said Nitlig as he strutted around the enclosure, prodding the stock occasionally so they snapped at him through the bars.
Nitlig joins the Mushloonz! I had thought of him as a shaman, but then I wasn't so sure. I started thinking he might be some kind of low level NPC Git, wandering round the Dankwood, but I wasn't sure what his "specialism" would be - herding snotlings with his small-but-aggressive Squig seemed possible.
Then rex__havoc on Instagram suggested he might flog squigs to any sucker with teef to spare (including selling snotlings in squig suits when times are tough and stocks were low!) as he's got a squig prodder on the bottom of his staff and a basher on top "for gitz that don't have coin". I loved the idea so he became the Gitz equivalent of a second-hand car salesman.

He was a badly damaged Skull Pass Stabba Boss (with a huge moon-sickle) and he needed a new face, a new staff-top and a new hood. But a 40K Grot, the Citadel Skulls box and some greenstuff provided them.

Zat the Stabba. This model was actually free on the cover of White Dwarf a long time ago. I painted him back then but I have now updated him a bit to match the rest of the warband.

I bought these three clusters of resin mushrooms from an independent hobby store in Bath, in the late 1990s. I have had them since then and not done very much with them. Two were painted years ago, but in the "wrong" colours. I have re-painted and based them to match my Harrowmark objective markers, so they can be added to my forest scenery to give it a more of a Gloomspite vibe.
"Got a great Mangler Squig for ya here boss! Only one owner, a weedy little Shaman who only took it out once a month to worship the Bad Moon. Plenty of bottled up rage waiting in there. No, no, dose fangs and spines are all real. Dey just look sorta like clay. Da best ones all do."
ReplyDeleteZat da Stabba looks like a nasty little git not to be trusted. A shining (once you get some of the grime wiped off) example of Grot-kind.
And yeah, those mushrooms look great. Excellent Objective Markers or bits of scatter terrain.
Thanks WestRider!
DeleteNitlig is totally trustworthy. Completely. Not a doubt in my mind. Yep.
Zat's nasty appearance is mostly due to his wonky broken nose I think.
I was mostly planning on using them as scatter terrain or even just to add to forests for atmosphere but I expect to use them as objectives at least sometimes.
The streaky effect on the spear (makes it look kinda serrated, as well as likely to cause infections) and mis-matched eyes contribute to that impression as well.
DeleteI Was just catching up with your last couple of posts and I spotted my own name! Came as quiet the shock! haha
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out, I'm chuffed to bits you made him a squig trader! (Though I'm going to have to totally pinch that idea back and make one for myself too now!)
Love the mushroom scatter, I've made a bunch of small ones as small scatter but I'm going to have to get some larger ones too, these just look fantastic!
Hi Rex!
DeleteYou are very welcome - I couldn't just claim the idea as my own! I look forward to seeing your Squig Trader. =D
I want to get some more mushrooms - All the scenery on the board needs to have a few added whenever I play the Mushloonz! ;-)
